Currently the CTOA is undergoing an evaluation of its mission and an analysis of how it can best be of service to Corsair owners. During this process, the CTOA web site will be minimized, but the CTOA list server is fully functional for communication between our members. We will use the list server to announce the new and improved CTOA. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but look forward to bringing you better services.

The Original Mission and Purpose of the CTOA was: to provide an organizational vehicle through which all Owners of Corsair Trimarans can avail themselves of fun sailing opportunities including but not limited to regattas, cruises, and rendezvous where they can compete against and socialize with other Owners in high-quality events sponsored and/or sanctioned by Corsair Marine as well as training and educational activities to help maintain and enhance the sailing and safety standards across the Corsair fleet.

What do you want from your organization?

CALL FOR: CTOA Officers, Committees, Volunteers

Please VOLUNTEER! And enjoy contributing to your sport in a think tank capacity! We know you are busy, but have your say, and we'll get the work done: corsair@corsairmarine.com.

All owners receive a free membership to the CTOA and the business of the organization is funded by Corsair Marine. The CTOA was created with Corsair vision and backing for the purpose of keeping the community of Corsair Owners together through fun events, not necessarily focused on racing, but including racing as well. It is up to the members of the CTOA to tell the officers what they want this organization to do for them, and up to Corsair Marine to seek out benefits to membership and sponsorship resources beyond those of Corsair alone. Please email your ideas and requests to corsair@corsairmarine.com.

The CTOA & PHRF Racing

In February 2004, Corsair Marine and The CTOA happily took on the responsibility of giving full personnel and funding support to the Corsair and Trailerable Trimaran PHRF Rating Committee. It is the intent of this committee and its Chair, Trey Ritter, to eventually standardize PHRF ratings for Corsairs nationwide so that when you buy yours, or apply for a rating, it will work in every PHRF rated regarra in the country, every time, without being manipulated by a regional PHRF committee. For more about PHRF racing and to obtain your PHRF certificate, click here.

CTOA & THE CORSAIR CLASS ASSOCIATIONS

The CTOA works with the independent North American Corsair 24/F-24 Class Association, North American Corsair 28 and North American Corsair 31/F-31 Class Associations, as well as the new N. A. Corsair 36 and 31-1D Class Associations. These Class Associations are the official governing associations for trimarans built by Corsair Marine. The Classes have launched their web sites and registered membership with US SAILING with the sponsorship resources of Corsair Marine and the help of the CTOA; Corsair has also facilitated these associations being incorporated as social non-profit organizations in the state of California.

As written in the bylaws of the two Associations, Corsair Marine, which channels sponsorship resources through the CTOA, has been invited to be a Sponsoring Member, and has accepted gladly. As a Sponsoring Member, Corsair Marine, through the CTOA, will fulfill the obligations written in the bylaws: "It is the intent of the Association to perform Class business (newsletter/article publishing, Class Rule balloting, Officer election, etc.) under the auspices of the CTOA, and have Class expenses sponsored by Corsair (as a Sponsoring Member)."

The CTOA is much more than a racing organization -- in fact the services and benefits it will provide to members will represent the interests of its members in proportion to them (15% serious racers, 10% casual racers, and 75% 'other') -- but, the CTOA is committed to helping the Class Associations be strong, effective, and member-driven RACING groups that give the racers what they need. And the CTOA is committed to fleet building. In this light, it is important for all to know that the Officers of the CTOA and Corsair Marine submit that it is in the best interest of owners of Corsair-built boats that their Class Associations be independent entities that do not require membership in ANY organization except the Class itself.

Those people who own Corsair 24/F-24s, Corsair F-27s, Corsair 28/F-28s, Corsair 31/F-31s, and (soon) Corsair 36s and Corsair 31-1Ds, and who want to race should be able to choose to join a strong, effective, independent, membership-driven one-design Class Association. And those Class Associations should be very clear on how they deal with rules and handicapping issues through the Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 including US SAILING Prescriptions and handicapping systems developed, arguably, over at least a century. Those RACING Classes should be dedicated to their active and interested members by giving them what they need and not forcing them to be involved in the goings on, politicking, and other non-racing oriented issues through required membership in organizations whose members joined them for different reasons and benefits.

An so, Corsair via the CTOA is delighted to contribute resources which include but are not limited to: payment of US SAILING On-Design dues, Class web sites designed and maintained by a professional at Corsair Marine from the design specs of the Class at no cost, covering site hosting costs, covering class list server costs if any, publishing class news in the Corsair magazine, making sure Class events were covered by CTOA insurances, etc., etc., etc. Corsair Marine steers every new owner to their Class Association and encourages them to join.

If you would like to work with the Officers of the CTOA and the Reps of the Class Associations to improve Class racing, please contact us through the information at the bottom of this page or via the CTOA list server.

Resurrecting the Corsair Cup

It's time to resurrect the Corsair Cup! To do so we need to develop fleets across the country, lead by a volunteer Fleet Leader. This Fleet Leader, along with the members in the fleet (all owners in the designated region) would isolate 3 to 5 regattas in the region to be their points regattas towards the Cup. If we can isolate these events before the 2006 Nationals, we can announce them there for 2007, and award the Cup for 2006 at the 2007 Nationals.

Potential events are posted at  www.corsairmarine.com/4Events.htm along with the simple event sanction and sponsor forms. All we need is Fleet Leaders, and forms submitted for those events the Fleets want to participate in to this end!

So far these folks have volunteered to be fleet leaders, but we still have some vacancies. Please volunteer, and let's get the Cup in  the hands of someone who earns it again!

Think about these items and help form the new CTOA!

National Associations we should participate in?
One owner suggested North American Multihull Sailing Association (NAMSA)
http://www.catsailor.com/namsa/namsa.html. We need more input as to what if any, if this, organization we should affiliate with.

Should the CTOA send a representative to the US SAILING Multihull Council meetings twice a year at the Annual General meeting in Fall and at the Spring Meeting. I have covered several but cannot afford to continue to do so without CTOA's assistance. The meetings take place in various locations. (St. Louis, Marina del Rey, Mobile, Cincinnati recently. To maintain continuity it would be best to have the same representative sent to all of the meetings. If funds are still not available, then let's make it a Board responsibility that whichever Board
member lives closest to each US SAILING Multihull Council meeting be responsible to attend and report back to the board.

CTOA Sponsorship - Increased sponsorship through Corsair Marine's strategic alliance with a significant education charity; Teach for America could be (http://www.teachforamerica.org/flash_movie.html ) a good possibility because education is important to everyone and we could develop strategic alliances with their numerous business affiliates; the Leukemia Cup is also considered a good possibility http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org-/regatta/all_toplevel?item_id=4197 . The CTOA needs a few volunteers to start isolating and developing sponsors.

Corsair Trimarans Worldwide Challenge (CTWC) - This issue goes unresolved.
It is Corsair Marines desire to offer up an event to it's owners worldwide, but the fist CTWC in the Bay Area of California had to be cancelled due to lack of participation. Members of the CTOA, what do you want and where do
you want it?
-Worth doing?
-Locations?
-Format/Events?

PHRF Racing
The consensus at this meeting was that it would be ideal for the CTOA PHRF rating to be the same for all PHRF races and that it is the goal of the PHRF Committee to work with volunteers from regional PHRF groups to make this
appen. Volunteers from regional groups need to voice their interest to Trey Ritter via the CTOA list server (CTOAmembers@rdwarf.com ).

Additional Benefits - Still need input on all of these issues!
-What do you want the CTOA to do for you?
-Giveaways, raffles, appreciation awards, etc.
-Recognitions/awards for building events and fleets
-Insurances
-Discounted entry fees for CTOA members to regattas, Corsair sailing school,
and other events.
-Membership goodies, probably including but not limited to: card, CTOA
pennant and/or an annual flag (i.e. US flag for 2002), special Corsair
accessories, etc?

Please, let us all hear from you on the list server: CTOAmembers@rdwarf.com
